It's already been widely discussed that processors are not a bottleneck to game performance with Sanctuary but that network speed is. One of the comments on the Steam page was to prohibit people who didn't have access to a particular speed.

Maybe there could be something built into the matchmaking system which looks at a minimum internet speed as part of the match algorithm.

I have to question if that's truly the case - if it is, then it's a significant 'about-face' for the RTS genre.

ECS allows us to have rediculous amounts of units ... we had 50k running in early tests. However we cannot send that amount of data over the network. That is the origin of the comment that we are network limited, not cpu limited.

The limitation is actually in the network-upload speed ... everything will go fine so long as the host computer has good upload speed and cpu speed. In the lobby we will give you tools to work out which is the best pc to be host. If someone has a slower cpu speed or internet connection then they can still play - they just shouldn't host large multiplayer games.

The good thing is that there's a way for everyone to play the game whether they have a slower CPU speed or internet connection. This solves the problem for everyone because if those with slow internet speed couldn't play at all, then that's a very big challenge because a good number of gamers will be cut off.
